Silent running drones and July 7th, 2014

Silent Running: Something I forgot

This blog that I do is a sort of challenge.  Its a challenge to myself to try and do 3 things every day that I feel like sharing with other people, its a challenge to keep my typing and writing at least a little under practice, and its a challenge to get creative when I fail to meet the first reason.  Anyway, many times I keep a list of things to talk about, but they are not very descriptive and sometimes what I wanted to mention falls through the cracks and is more an account of what I did than what I wanted to say.  Recently I watched "Silent Running" and something of that movie puzzled me.  You see, in that movie the main character re-programs tiny robot drones to be his friends.  When you first see it, you think "oh they are little people in there", but something will be "off" about that.  These drones move strangely, and the leg span is much larger than what a dwarf would be able to pull off.  Its not a huge part of the movie, so I put it from my mind to concentrate on enjoying the show.  With the credits it made a big production of thanking and introducing the people that brought the drones to life, which got me curious again.  So I looked it up, and its actually Bi-amputees, so what we're actually seeing with them are people that have had their lower bodies amputated.  The director had met them at another performance and were so taken by the performers that he made sure to present them in his movie.

July 7th, 2014

Well I have been working on my "1994 in Gaming" post all morning and decided that with images and everything, I will not be getting it done in time for today's post.  With my huge posts I tend to do about 3 writes of it.  I write everything I want to write, and this is large, unfocused and unreadable.  Then for the 2nd time I rewrite it, condensing things, grouping topics and such, and get it readable.  These are the "larger post on my blah blog" linked posts that you see.  The 3rd time is when I get the target of 3 paragraphs for a post at the top of my daily blogs.  They get the point across and a couple of images to break things up.  Trying to get 1994 in gaming down to 3 paragraphs is taking some thinking.  Luckily I keep several emergency "lazy days" topics for situations that come up.

My poor doggy has the fleas.  I've heard that this year is a bad year for fleas(though its the same frequency that this year is supposed to be the hottest yet), but my dog has been quite lucky so far.  Usually by now we're on several treatments, but tomorrow will be the first treatment needed for her.  The poor thing is allergic to flea bites in some way, and when she gets fleas, she puffs up and starts losing hair.  I'll get her blankets treated and dry and then give her a bath.  She likes to get under blankets and sleep for 6 hours afterward, just to make  sure I feel guilty.

The weekend's cauliflower experiment was a success.  We had dirty rice with sausage, except we had smoked turkey sausage and we used cauliflower for the rice.  It turned out really well, cauliflower picks up flavors a little more strongly than rice, and also it mutes the spices less, so if you try making this, remember that the spices are going to be stronger than usual.  Not that I'm complaining, my girlfriend's been on a spicy kick lately and so I have a higher than usual tolerance for spicy as well.
