Weekend of Feb 28

Weekend Update Feb 28

I'm starting a long long project of listening to all ACDC official albums in chronological order.  There's a lot of ACDC I do not know, and since I can practically fill 2 CD's with songs by them I could listen to over and over forever... there's bound to be some stuff I will like that I've never heard.   Over the weekend I got through High Voltage and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap a few times each.  My biggest surprise comes from "Ride On", because I never expected Bon Scott to have that kind of song.  My girlfriend said that he was very "self aware" in that song, and I have to say that I agree.  She also said it was sort of sad because he never got the chance to "change his ways" as he expressed he would want to do one day on the song, which is pretty much how I felt when I first listened to it.  I was also surprised when "The Jack" had different lyrics than the version I know, which was on Live at Donnington.  I'm doing this because I am learning ACDC songs on guitar.  I have had this GIANT "ACDC" bible for years, and I"ve been saving ACDC "how to" vids on youtube.  Its a long time coming, but I'm finally good enough to start playing(well.. maybe not the solos)

The weekend included Sunday, which was a beautiful day.  I would venture to say it was the first taste of "Spring 2014".  I'm getting cabin fever from having to keep my windows and doors closed all through the cold weather.  Also I have this strange desire to play musical instruments outside, and last time I had my guitar amp outside my friend Justin was playing it... so its been a loooooong time.

Speaking of playing, I think my bass guitar was jealous.  Sunday morning I got her out and played her, and she was sounding beautiful.  I tried my best to let her play like she wanted to, but I'm just not that great a player lol.  I am worried I am becoming a better guitar player than bass player.  For now though, I've made a commitment, so I won't be advancing too much in bass for a few months.  I did, for the first time again in a while, record something I came up with on bass.  Hang in there, I'll get better and you'll be able to sing like you know you can.

With the money I had left over from the Ni No Kuni sale(its still $10 till Tuesday the 4th) I bought Flower.  Flower is by "That Game Company", of which I have never been disappointed.  Its easy to want to hate Flower and That Game Company.  They are the critic's darling, and so their games are built up immensely while being pretty simplistic games.  I have to say that Flower is amazingly fun.  You know what it reminded me of?  Tony Hawk Pro Skater.  Getting that perfect curve so that you surf among the grass at a graceful "whooosh" reminds me of when you jump and hit a nice slope in Tony Hawk for the first time.  Download the demo and give it a shot, you might like it... despite the fact they win awards and get endless praise.

On the movie front, I'm revisiting the Kick-ass universe before I'm watching part 2.  I remembered many parts of the movie, but it was not that bad a re-watch... pretty good actually.  It really really felt similar in style to Zombieland, in the way it was told.  I guess there was a small burst of movies that did that around the time it was released.  Its very much the "dorky guy narrates amazing stuff" genre.  The movie is bloody, but watchable since its almost comical in its graphic violence... I still can't watch the guy in the microwave part.  Thanks Gremlins 2.  I have a lot to say about the Oscars this year(it was actually a pretty good show this year), but I"ll let that be blog fodder for later this week.
